I was not born CL Roberts on that cold December night in Michigan as the 50’s began another decade for some – the first decade for others. I became CL Roberts after the death of my beloved maternal grand parents. This pen name is my homage to them.

As with any writer, I’ve written a lot more than I’ve published. But I’ve enjoyed a rich, full life beyond writing. And I am compelled to share what I’ve learned, studied, observed, enjoyed, discovered, and uncovered – sprinkled with a few grains of pain or sudden outbursts of joy.

Some readers enjoy my style of writing, others abhor it. But it’s my style. It’s the way I write. It’s who I am.

Agree with me / Don’t agree with me. My goal is to present the information I know. It’s up to you what to do with it.

I was 14 years old with 14 year old thoughts when I made the observation that retired folk appeared to be old and feeble. It seemed it would be difficult to “enjoy your retirement years” when it’s difficult to even walk.

I decided at that time that I would work life a little backwards. I’d retire after high school so I could enjoy it. Of course, at that time, I didn’t really know what retirement meant. I thought it meant that you traveled around the country seeing what you’ve wanted to see. Even though I thought about it simply, I made the decision to retire first.

When I graduated from high school in 1970, I immediately embarked on my journey. Since I’ll be writing that first journey in a later book, I won’t go into the details here. But it entailed a year of traveling to every continental US State.

Since I was still retired after my first journey of discovery, I did a stint in the Marines before beginning years worth of short-stay jobs. Over the years, I’ve been a bartender, a butler, a shipping clerk, a chauffeur, an industrial building maintainer, a machine operator, a gambler, a truck driver, an equipment operator, a singer and performer, a bouncer, a builder, a roofer, a plumber, an in-home appliance technician, an HVAC tech, an RV equipment specialist, a secretary, a line cook, a waiter, a farm hand, a builder of new homes, an online community manager, a moderator, a forum administrator, a community adviser, a car salesman, a trash collector, a web hosting company owner, an outsourced support representative, a door-to-door seller, a store manager on a Navy base, a landscaper, a carpenter, a traveler of space and time, a student, a teacher, an ordained minister, a wedding officiant, a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker (not sticks made into candles – but candles that were much more than sticks), a doorman, a writer, a coach, a player, a reader, a caretaker, a breather, a breeder, a philosopher, a flipper, a lover, an activist, a hippy, a suite, a bum, a multiple business owner, a gamer, a debater,  a liver of life, and since I can’t list it all, I’m ending the incomplete list now.

Anyone can exist. I chose to live.
